Sea of Faces, Canada

This photo essay documents a community of island fisherman who live their lives ruled by the sea,  a force that is unpredictable, economically tenuous, and always demanding. Grand Manan Island breathes with the ocean, and the people who reside there, live according to the tides. Their lives are altered by the struggle that surrounds such an occupation. It is a close-knit community of people, and the sea is mapped on their faces. ‘Sea of Faces’ shows both a reverence for tradition and a way of life.
