Behind Broken Walls

Two months after the January 2010 earthquake, I travelled to Haiti as a photojournalist and relief worker, documenting the lives of those displaced by the disaster. Over the course of three years, I created a series of images and three short films, that document the lives of three families during the aftermath, and the process of moving forward, rebuilding after disaster. I became a part of my subject’s every day dialogue living with them in their homes, which helped me to convey a level of intimacy and a shared humanity. We are not so different. We are connected—we desire to be understood, to be seen, and to belong. It is this understanding which moves us forward.
